Mia Love, born Ludmya Bourdeau, was a prominent political figure and commentator who made significant strides in American politics. Born to Haitian immigrants in Brooklyn, New York, Mia grew up in Norwalk, Connecticut, and later moved to Utah, where she began her political career.

She served as the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, from 2010 to 2014, and later as the U.S. Representative for Utah’s 4th congressional district from 2015 to 2019. Her tenure in Congress was marked by several historic firsts: she was the first Black person elected to Congress from Utah, the first Haitian-American in Congress, and the first Black Republican woman to serve in the House of Representatives.

Mia Love’s journey is intertwined with her deep faith and her loving husband, Jason Love. Their story began in 1998 when Mia, who had recently converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, met Jason, an LDS missionary who had served in Connecticut. The couple quickly formed a strong bond, and just four months after their first date, they tied the knot in December 1998.

Jason Love, a software engineer with an MBA from the University of Utah, played a crucial role in supporting Mia’s political career while maintaining a stable home life for their family. He worked as an executive vice president at Xactaware, a software company in Lehi, Utah, and later served as Vice President of Product at Verisk Analytics, Inc.
. Despite Mia’s demanding political schedule, the couple ensured that family remained a priority. They used technology to stay connected, often setting up iPads during dinner to have family prayers together.

Mia Love’s Children and Family Life & Cancer Diagnosis

Mia and Jason Love were blessed with three children: Alessa, Abigaile, and Peyton. Their daughters, Alessa and Abigaile, followed in their father’s footsteps by pursuing engineering at Utah State University. Alessa is married to Lincoln Archibald, an investor and founder of Fund Launch Partners, and they have a child together, making Mia a proud grandmother.

In February 2022, Mia Love was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Doctors gave her a grim prognosis, estimating that she had only 10 to 15 months to live. Despite the challenges, Mia underwent surgery and participated in an immunotherapy clinical trial, which initially showed promising results. However, in March 2025, her family announced that the treatments were no longer effective, and they shifted their focus to enjoying their remaining time together.

On March 23, 2025, Mia Love passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Her daughter Alessa shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, describing Mia as her hero and best friend. Mia’s family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences, and they announced that they would provide information about funeral services and a public celebration of her life in the days to come.

Mia Love’s life was marked by her unwavering faith, dedication to public service, and deep love for her family. Her legacy as a trailblazing political figure and a devoted wife and mother will continue to inspire future generations.
