The 29-year-old data scientist, Hai Giang, is a new castaway of Survivor Season 42; he was born in 1993 in Atlanta, GA. He is originally from Bac Lieu, Vietnam, but lives in New Orleans, LA. Talking about his early life, Hai Giang came to us when he was just three years old; as a Vietnam refugee; he shared his childhood stories in a CBS interview.
"People would never guess that I grew up in extreme poverty by looking at me now. My family and I have very comfortable lives today, but we've had to hustle and fight for the past two decades to improve our socio-economic class. We started in a one-bedroom apartment shared with another family."
Hai Giang added, "My parents both worked seven days a week to provide for us, so I was often left alone to fend for myself from the age of 8. I learned to survive and be resilient from a very young age. People don't see that now, but I'll always cherish those tougher years. They made me strong."
When being asked, "who is your hero and why? Hai Giang proudly said, "My mother is my hero. Cliché answer, but it's true. She came to the U.S. with my father and me as a 23-year-old refugee with no grasp of English and $40 in her pockets. I could only imagine how much courage that would take. She worked hard, took no breaks, and provided for me despite all her challenges.
Hai Giang also has a little brother named "Ryan; recently, Giang announced his little brother's 16th birthday via Instagram and wrote as a caption ", Premiere week coincided with my little bro's 16th birthday! The Survivor show reality star completed his bachelor's degree in marketing and business economics with manga cum laude from Georgia State University; in fact, Hai Giang was the first person in his family to reach college level and graduate. Moreover, Hai Giang was also brought home at the age of 24 and was proud of himself as he paid his student loan ($40k) at 26.
According to his LinkedIn, he started working as a director of marketing analytics at Bully Pulpit Interactive in Washington, D.C, in November 2021; also, he was the associate director for analytics at Neo@Ogilvy company, where he worked for four years.
