One Piece is one of the longest-running animated series based off a manga of the same name. The animated series is produced by Toei Animation and was first premiered in 1991. After two decades, the show is still running, and we are encountering new plot twists.
One of the key characters, Portgas D. Ace, aka “Fire Fist” Ace, dies after an encounter with Sakazuki, aka Admiral Akainu. This brings us to one of the key questions of the show, When does Ace die?
In What Episode Does Ace Die?
We will try to answer the question as short as possible, because why not? So, the short answer is: Ace Dies in Episode 483 after his encounter with Admiral Akainu. Sakazuki attacks him through his manga fist, and that’s enough to suck Fire Fist’s life out.
After the punch, Fire Fist lands on Monkey D. Luffy’s arms and goes straight to relive his memories and think about all the dreams and ambitions he had in his life. Some introspection moments were captured, too. “Should he have been born?” was his last thought.
While the whole scene was emotional for the fans as Ace was lying in Luffy’s arms, dangers were looming for Monkey D. Luffy as well. Admiral Akainu tries to attack Luffy, but luckily the attack is blocked by Jinbe. After Jinbe’s block, Marco and Vista come to Luffy’s rescue.
The fight continues between Marco, Vista and Jinba against Admiral Akainu; not long enough, they realize they are no match for Sakazuki. As Luffy was holding Portgas D in his arms, Jinbe and the team realized Ace was injured beyond help, and decided to leave him there and flee.
As they were leaving, Ace looked at them, especially Luffy, and thanked him for everything and, most precisely, for loving him. Luffy then leaves Ace there and is seen crying after the loss of his brother.
Who is Portgas D., aka Fire Fist Ace?
Fire Fist Ace was the sworn older brother of Monkey D. Luffy and “Flame Emperor” Sabo. According to the One Piece Manga, Ace was the biological son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Garp. Moreover, he was the second division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates and one-time captain of the Spade Pirates.
Whitebeard and Ace’s tombs in Universal Studios Japan.
The character of Portgas D. was so influential for the Manga and anime that Universal Studios Japan has built a replica of Ace and Whitebeard’s tombs in Osaka. People who have been to Japan claim the Japanese people are crazy over One Piece, and anime stuff is fairly spread out throughout the country.
There’s an amusement park, “J World,” with a bunch of Shonen jump stuff and a Baratie restaurant at the Fuji Television building. There’s bad news for the fans, though; the amusement park has been closed down permanently due to COVID-19’s impact on its management.
Coming back to Portgas D., there’s a fun fact you should all know. Fire Fist was the captain of the Spade Pirates; Apparently, the writers were good at puns as the whole situation is the pun on the “Ace of Spades,” also known as a “Death Card,” and possibly hints Fire Fist’s eventual death.
